solo exhibition, S!GNAL, center for contemporary art, Malmö, Sweden, 2016

installation with videos, banana leaves, water pots, clay, drawing on blackboard, chalk, and wooden stick

Among the videos, banana leaves, water drops, smashed clay relate to the main Guadeloupean ecologic issues : Chlordecone, a molecule used against an insect eating the roots of banana trees, despite knowing it was harmful for the population, polluting soils and seas for centuries. The installation changed throughout the month, with translations and new movements in the exhibition space. In the frame of the exhibition at S!GNAL, 2 events occured : the diffracted dash, a publication release and reading coming from my collaboration with Imri Sandström about Glissant’s writing in Philosophy of the Relation; and a talk by the historian Fredrik Thomasson on Slaves and free black in the court of justice at Swedish Saint Barthélemy, when we realized that Guadeloupe has been swedish for almost a year and that the colonial past of Sweden remains almost totally unknown.
